In the inaugural episode of the Psych Health and Safety in Canada podcast we meet host Mary Ann Baynton. Mary Ann is affectionately referred to as the ‘godmother of psych health and safety’ due to her instrumental work in the development of the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety at Work (Z1003) and other leading advocacy work in this area. Mary Ann is joined by special guest Jason van Schie – co-host of the Psych Health and Safety Podcast, course instructor at the 45003 Academy and founder of FlourishDx – the leading psychological health, safety and wellbeing software platform for companies. They discuss the current state of workplace mental health in Canada, and Mary Ann’s offers a glimpse of the not-to-distant-future. ISO 45003:2021 (the international standard for psychological health and safety) and how this relates to the Canadian standard on the same subject matter is considered. Mary Ann and Jason both discuss a number of educational and practical resources they have contributed to in the space of psychological health and safety and discuss their hopes for the future of the practice.
